NE PDX SALON RENOVATION
We had the pleasure of working on Rosie’s newly opened salon Fringe&Friends in NE Williams District in Portland, Oregon. Rosie had recently decided to open a salon in an industrial mechanic garage in the Boise neighborhood. The space had clearly been used for utilitarian purposes over years and had a list of big projects to get into: Floor-to-ceiling electrical outlets, exposed beams, a failing ceiling and plumbing running the length of the room above.
The space had been stripped down to 4 concrete cinder blocked walls with an erected wall in the middle. Rosie and I worked together to find the best solutions for turning the space into her own. She loved the look of the old plumbing pipes, so we restored the ceiling around them by applying a textured smooth coat and spraying it a powder white. We tore out all the old hanging fluorescent lights and replaced them with pendants lights that offered the space a bright modern feel. We also applied a traditional metal ceiling to the partition wall that serve as the backdrop to their before & afters photos for clients. Next, Rosie presented me with colors from their sister location in NYC. We worked together to find the best colors for the palette by painting the ceilings and trim an icing color, light blue for the walls, a pop of metallic pink for the featured sink wall and deep black-blue for the epoxy floor coating to bring grounding and unity to the space.

“ Fringe was established in New York in 2004 – moving to Portland I knew I wanted to bring that piece of the city with me. Bryan worked with me on recreating yet personalizing a space of my own which was a fun experience and probably the easiest part of opening a business. Bryan and his team did EVERYTHING from top to bottom. Smooth coating ceiling, to color placement, tiled the bathroom floor, custom partitioned wall, the list goes on!
I’m glad Bryan was by my side during this process that can be overwhelming and stressful. He made my vision come to live!“
