1911 RICHMOND CRAFTSMAN
We had the opportunity to work on Heidi and Louis’s 1911 Craftsman home last fall. In our first consultation, they shared with me that they were looking to have a durable, quality, and long-lasting re-paint of their home. They had a color palette they were excited about so we worked together to find the best placement of the colors on the different parts of the house’s architectural elements. The original details of the early 19th century home were still intact and we wanted to highlight the beautiful elements it showcased. The house was in need of attention in terms of failing paint, reconditioning of wood surfaces, rot repair, cracked and separated joints, and an outdated, bland paint theme.
The clients’ hoped to update their home with paying attention to the quality and aesthetic elements. So what prevailed was a beautiful historical restoration. It has a matte deep brown-black on the lower lap siding with light cool blue for the cedar shakes on the upper half that is split horizontally halfway up the house by a simple warm off-white that perfectly balances and pulls the colors of the house together. They decided to pop the color palette with a bold orange for the windows sashes and a coffee brown for the doors. All of these choices made way for an architectural work of art that evokes classic and modern feels alike.
” When we moved to Portland in 2001, we loved the variety of fun and unexpected colors adorning the homes in SE Portland. When it came time to paint our 1911 bungalow we wanted to contribute to this tradition with unexpected colors that still respect the era of the house. Picking colors was the hardest part but Bryan and his team were able to give us a ton of guidance with the help of a color consultant and his years of experience. We’ve done a lot of work on our old home and I’ve never had a contractor who was so communicative as Bryan. A rarity in this industry and very much appreciated. When a health issue came up and we needed to delay the start of the project, Bryan was totally understanding and accommodating. Bryan is very detailed and serious about the outcome of his work. Not just a painter, but a true tradesman. His team was also very respectful of our neighbor’s recently planted landscaping between our houses. Not one plant was harmed! One day, an elderly neighbor’s scooter became stuck in some mud and Bryan and his teamed dropped everything to help her. Spending large amounts of money on your home is nerve wracking because you want it done right. To find such a talented team of individuals who are great at communicating, truly care about their work, are considerate and are deep down just good people is a rare find. I cannot recommend Bryan and his team enough! “
